Hi everyone.
GM foods are in the Australian food supply. Therefore, you and your family are eating them.
Furthermore, GM canola is about to be released into the Australian landscape in two Australian states as an unfettered commercial release. We fully expect this to widely contaminate non-GM canola in Australia within a few years as it did in Canada.
My colleagues and I are very concerned about the risks of GM crops and foods. We are particularly concerned about the health risks. We believe that Australia’s regulators have not properly assessed these risks. Attached is a letter to the new Federal Government to ask it to conduct a serious review of the safety of GM foods and to remind them of their undertaking to the Australian people that the safety of genetically modified foods must be “established beyond reasonable doubt.” This letter will be sent to the PM and five other Ministers mid next week.
Please read the letter. Then, please endorse the letter by emailing Chris Woodcock by 12 noon Tuesday 4th March 2008 at chris@fenwicks.com.au stating that you endorse the letter. If you have any degrees, please place these at the end of your name. If you want to sign on behalf of an organisation or company, please add this information after your name as well, as well as your title within the organisation.
If we do not receive a suitable response from the Federal Government, we intend to publish this letter in every major daily Australian newspaper. If you do not want your name attached to the published letter, please tell us in the email.
